We are united towards this goal as a diverse learning and teaching community comprised of a balance of both Deaf and hearing faculty and staff. Our program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpretation Education ( CCIE ). We offer a 4-year BS degree which trains students to become skilled at sign language interpreting so that upon graduation a student can begin working as an interpreter for the Deaf, a career that has many benefits and advantages. EKU is dedicated to training and educating students to their fullest, and the ITP at Eastern not only reflects this philosophy but also aims to become a nationwide leader in training qualified and professional interpreters. We welcome students to join us on this journey! We accomplish our goal through a number of avenues: Programs and courses in American Sign Language (ASL) including: A minor in ASL Studies An outstanding ASL Language Learning Lab Teachers who are certified by ASLTA Nationally accredited interpreter education program that features: B.S. degree in ASL-English Interpretation Highly qualified teachers A state of the art interpretation studio Statewide and nationwide internship placements High employment rates of our graduates (95% within 3 months) Regional and statewide partnerships and stewardship including: Center on Deafness and Hearing Loss Outreach and in-service training for professional interpreters Partnerships with key stakeholders such as: Kentucky Department of Education, Kentucky School for the Deaf, Administrative Office of the Courts, Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation We encourage you to explore who we are and what we do within this website.
